This was her first semester teaching. She’s not bad honestly. The class is a pretty fun one, and it’s also interesting information. She gives you the slides from her powerpoints so you don’t have to feel too pressured writing notes all class. If you study for the tests, you’ll do fine.

She also has 4 class discussions where you have to read 3-4 articles, write 2 good questions, send them to her, and then participate in the discussion for a total of 20 points. Overall I’d recommend her and her class.

If you want a really easy class with nothing to do, this probably isn’t it. Weekly readings with a short 1 page paper due each reading, and there’s a midterm and a final.

Not a bad choice for class, but not the best.

Love this guy. His humor is dry and subtle and def not for everyone. I was a junior business major who just forgot to take this class earlier, and this was exactly what I needed. The poetry section was awesome, and while I hate shakespeare, the essay topics assigned didnt delve to deep into the muck of it. Very doeable. Came to class when I wasnt busy studying my ass of for other classes, and enjoyed talking to him after class. He’s very open minded and encourages outside the box thinking on essays.

Though there is quite an amount of reading and writing to be done in this course it is worth it. The readings were generally interesting though very odd at times. Dr. Bader exudes a passion for literature and art and accurately conveys this to his students. I felt this course was worthwhile and improved my writing. I am by no means a hard worker but I did do the work (not always thoroughly) and received an A- for my final grade. One last thing: be prepared to participate-he will call on you and if not it boosts your grade significantly.

There is no doubt that while Dr. Agrios is an extremely hard teacher, he is also a very good one. He explains all the organic chemistry concepts and mechanisms extremely well, making sure the student understands every detail. Instead of memorizing, he uses logic in organic chemistry. He is easy to get a hold of outside of class if you need help also. That being said, his tests are extremely hard. On one of our tests, only twelve people got a grade above a 70 out of 60 students.

Hands down, ranks in my top three favorite professors. He is clearly brilliant, but never seems condescending in explaining difficult material; he takes the time to make sure that you actually understand the point in question before he moves on. He’s also extremely generous with extensions and help with papers– it’s obvious that he really wants you to do well. Class is always interesting, even if you don’t do the reading– there’s a lot of reading, but class discussion is usually sufficient to get the gist of the conversation without much preparation. ABSOLUTELY TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.

Caughlin is one of the better freshman dorms as far as the condition of the building is concerned. It is in a prime location: close to the Spit and the Sparket. It can be inconvenient because it is a girls-only dorm. You have to adhere to visiting hours and male friends have to leave your room after a certain time in the evenings, and if you want to hang out or study together after visiting hours you have to stay in the first floor lounge. It can get to be a pain in the neck. Also, living in a co-ed dorm makes it easier for people to become close friends with people of the other gender; needless to say, unless you already know people or have friends in other dorms, meeting and befriending guys outside of classes is difficult. Caughlin and McGuire Halls were set up next to each other as single-sex dorms (Caughlin for girls and McGuire for guys) and in the beginning of the year the RA’s talk it up, saying that the two Halls mingle a lot and do activities together, but it’s not really true. Otherwise, I would say that Caughlin is great. The bathrooms are new and spacious, the showers have a changing stall to hang your robe and place your shower caddy up off the ground, and everything in Caughlin is in better condition than that in the older dorms on South (except for Good Counsel and McGuire).

Prof. Borden is an extremely nice guy. I really liked him. For the tests and quizzes, don’t read the chapter until the night before the quiz. I used to read when the chapters were assigned and constantly got c’s. Once second semester started, I started reading the night before the quizzes and got all a’s. Second semester definitely has a lot more work such as a research project and presentation, but it’s also very manageable. Overall, I would definitely recommend Prof. Borden.
